Open Your Heart, Show Some Love: a Workshop with Vivekan & Jess

Sunday, February 12, 2012, 2:30-4pm

Upward Bow pose

This Valentine’s – whether solo, with a friend or with a honey – is a perfect time to open your heart more deeply to the practice of yoga and treat yourself to the health benefits of you guessed it, heart-openers! This category of yoga postures are esteemed for increasing flexibility in the spine, uplifting moods, increasing alertness and spinning the heart-chakra that inspires us to show ourselves — and others some love! :D

We’ll work up from heart-opening fundamentals, into intermediate-level material. Expect to have fun and delve deeply into heart-opening safety tips, challenges, benefits– and as a result, enjoy some break-throughs in postures and/or transitions.

After, sample Vivekan and Jess’ favorite dark chocolate paired with heart-healthy red wine or non-alcoholic bev.

Semi-Annual Personal Assessment with Vivekan & Jess

Sunday, February 26, 2012, 2:30-4:30pm

The semi-annual personal assessment is an opportunity to receive direct feedback from Vivekan and Jess — in a 25-minute private setting — regarding your current abilities in 11 key asanas and transitional movements. These 11 asanas and transitional movements indicate your progress in Bodhisattva Yoga’s Shila (Intermediate) level material.

You’ll not only get real-time, personal feedback on how you are coming along in these 11, if you succeed in 8 out of 11 of the requested poses/transitions, you’ll receive a personal invite into our (future) invitation-only Advanced-level class! Whereby all invitees will have successfully demonstrated in a Semi-Annual Personal Assessment setting, at least 8 of the 11 key asanas and transitional movements.

Note: The Semi-Annual Personal Assessment is not a class, or a workshop. You will not receive instruction. Instead, this is an opportunity to demonstrate your Intermediate-level hatha yoga siddhis (Skt., accomplishments/abilities).

The asanas will be first asked for in their Sanskrit names. You, the interested practitioner, will have 3 tries to demonstrate that you not only know the name, but can produce the asana upon command — thus, a siddhi. The transitions will be asked for by their common English names.

The 11 poses and transitions will be:

  • Vairochana asana = 7-point seated posture in half lotus — with Ujjayi-enhanced Yogic Breath;
  • Bakasana = wading bird;
  • Parsva Bakasana = side wading bird;
  • Urdva Dhanurasana = upward bow;
  • Adho Mukha Vrksasana = handstand;
  • Salamba Sarvangasana = supported shoulder-stand;
  • Salamba Sirsasana = headstand;
  • Chaturanga Dandasana, Urvda Mukha Svanasana Vinyasa = jump back from forward bend into 4-pointed staff pose & transition into upward-facing dog pose;
  • Double scissoring of the legs;
  • Jump-through; and,
  • Spring-high into forward bend.

ANY practitioner who’s been practicing in our Shila-level classes will find great benefit and utility as a result of this Semi-Annual Personal Assessment. The personal feedback will inform and spur your practice onward. This opportunity won’t come again until next September’s semi-annual personal assessment.

You have all to gain, with nothing to lose. Enroll with confidence and a sense of play. You are ready to Rock it!
