Death and Dying: Embracing a Positive Relationship with Mortality

Death and Dying: Embracing a Positive Relationship with Mortality

A Workshop with Bodhisattva Yoga Instructor Morgan

When: Sunday, September 27th, 2015
Where: Bodhisattva Yoga, Park Slope, Brooklyn
Time: 2:30-4pm
Registration fee: $45

Death, the dying process, and our own mortality are often challenging subjects to discuss. This 1½ hour workshop is uniquely designed to illuminate the shadows one often confronts as they begin to explore issues around death and dying. As these issues are often associated with fear and worry, this workshop will give the participants an opportunity to openly and honestly challenge common fears and concerns and view mortality in a more enlightened and positive way.

Morgan sees daily how her own practice of relying on mindfulness, presence, and the Bodhisattva Yoga ideal of altruism, empower her to create an environment of peace, love, and ultimately compassionate concern for her patients, their families and her colleagues. In this workshop, Morgan will utilize personal experiences, research and study, Dharma inspired practices, and her own heartfelt passions to expose the truths around care of the dying, and indeed our own deaths. Her aim is to create a supportive setting in which participants may become more comfortable with death and the dying process and perhaps find meaning and life purpose in the very essence of it.

Morgan has been a Registered Nurse for 8-years. She provides patient and family centered care for the catastrophically and terminally ill on the Palliative Care Unit at The Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan. She began her practice at Bodhisattva Yoga 5-years ago and graduated from theAwaken Your Inner Warrior™ Teacher Training program in 2013 under the peerless leadership and guidance of Vivekan. Practicing at Bodhisattva Yoga has been transformative in her life both personally and professionally.

Morgan has attended several conferences, workshops, and lectures pertaining to end of life care, death, and dying. She recently co-authored “When Death is Near”, a published informational booklet that seeks to educate and inspire the reader to understand, embrace, and participate in the dying process.

Dharma at Bodhisattva Yoga with Geshe Dargye

When: Saturday, August 8th
Where: Bodhisattva Yoga
Time: 5:30-6:30pm

This event is free of charge and open to the public. Donations accepted.

Please RSVP by clicking "Sign Up Now!" below.

We are happy to announce that Geshe Dargye will be continuing his Dharma talks at Bodhisattva Yoga on Saturday, August 8th, from 5:30-6:30pm.

The topic is on the Indian master Atisha's "The Best of the Teachings of the Path". Geshela makes his Dharma talks fun and accessible, and bases them on well-reasoned tips on how to live and practice optimally. This talk is great for experienced and newcomers alike.

Geshe Lobsang Dargye is a gifted Buddhist scholar monk who is now the Resident Teacher at Do Ngak Kunphen Ling (DNKL) in Redding, CT. He has received the highest monastic degree, that of Geshe Lharampa, and the Ngagrampa degree in Buddhist Tantric Studies from Gyumed Tantric College.

Email us if you have questions.

More about Geshe Dargye…

Geshe Lobsang Dhargye was born in 1969 in the Bomdilla district of the state of Arunachal Pradesh, North East India. At the age of ten, he entered Sera Mey Monastery, which is one of the largest Tibetan monasteries. He then began his long monastic training under the Venerable Gyumed Khensur Rinpoche Lobsang Jampa, his personal tutor and Spiritual Director of DNKL.

Geshe-la received his ordination as a novice monk in 1982 from the late Kyabje Ling Rinpoche, the senior tutor of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and the 97th Throne Holder of the Gelug tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. He then received the vows of a fully ordained monk, a Bikshu, in 1994 directly from His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

After 15 years of study, Geshe-la appeared for the All Gelupga Monastic University examination in 1996 and was awarded the highest monastic degree, that of Geshe Lharampa. For the final part of this examination, Geshe-la had to go to all the three great monastic universities of the Gelugpa tradition, namely Sera, Ganden and Drepung, to engage in philosophical debates with the finest of monk scholars.

As tradition mandates, after successfully completing studies in Buddhist Sutra, Geshe-la went to Gyumed Tantric College in 1999 to study Buddhist tantra. In 2002, he topped the debate examination conducted by those monks who held Geshe Lharampa degrees at Gyumed Tantric College. He received the Ngagrampa degree in Buddhist Tantric Studies. Geshe-la also served in the “Education Development Committee of Sera Mey Monastery” from 1999 to 2001.

The Art of Effortless Relaxation: Savasana & Yogic Sleep

The Art of Effortless Relaxation:
Savasana & Yogic Sleep

A Workshop with Bodhisattva Yoga founder Vivekan

When: Sunday, July 26, 2015
Where: Bodhisattva Yoga, Park Slope, Brooklyn
Time: 2:30-4pm

Registration fee: $45

Yogic adepts have stated that 15 minutes of Yoga Nidra (skt., yogic sleep) can be as restorative as a night’s rest.

In this workshop, we'll explore the profundity of this starting with the basics of Savasana (skt., corpse pose) – with and without supports.

With an attention to detail and adjustments not afforded in class settings, in this workshop, Vivekan will offer the opportunity to directly taste complete release. With the aid of Savasana, and guided meditations, your body and mind will settle into Yoga Nidra – a deeply restorative, blissful and lucid state of peaceful calm.

Walk -- or float -- away deeply rested, with an enriched understanding of the yogic sleep technique to enhance your deep relaxation periods in class, or at home.

Everyone can benefit from profound rest.

Space is limited; register to reserve your spot.
